This project focused on turning a newly built residential property into a sustainable, low-maintenance landscape using stormwater management and native plantings. The front yard was redesigned with a rain garden to handle downspout and driveway runoff, while invasive species were removed to make way for native shrubs and trees. The backyard transformation included prairie plantings, a large rain garden, and sustainable irrigation systems. I built a new house on a three-hundred-foot-deep lot with a lot of grass that I did not want to maintain. Of the proposals I received to go a different direction, Abundant Design was the only one that addressed all of my requirements. They offer maintenance support as requested to manage ongoing needs.

They installed two rain gardens to hold the run-off from the roof and concrete, helping to reduce water going to the city streets.

They also installed fifty varieties of planned shrubs and plants near the house and around ninety seed varieties in the prairie grass sections.

Abundant Design was an honest, dependable partner to transform a grassland into what I wanted.

This project focused on transforming a steep, erosion-prone yard into a multifunctional permaculture haven. The design integrated stormwater management with a rain garden, swales, and contour pathways. It also included a pondless waterfall for aesthetics and a functional apple guild. The landscaping was enhanced with native plantings and boulder retaining walls, reducing maintenance and adding pollinator habitats. "I can't say enough good things about Jeff and his crew! We had such a difficult yard with a steep slope and lots of water problems. We wanted to cut down on mowing, turn most of the yard from grass to native plants that benefit the environment and utilize the water run-off. Jeff came up with a plan to address ALL of our needs. He even offered me advice on where to plant some fruit trees the year BEFORE he came up with a design for our yard, based on the topography of our lot. Our project included many different elements like moving our raised beds and compost bins to be more accessible, working around existing plantings, building a waterfall and pond, installing steps on a steep hill, putting in a patio and fire pit and making a rain garden. He incorporated everything we asked for into the plan. Jeff (and his team) were kind, knowledgeable, patient, flexible, enthusiastic, dependable, hard-working and above all - Jeff CAME BACK to complete the job after coming out to look at the potential project (which none of the other 4 or 5 contractors we tried to hire did after seeing what they were up against!) We are so pleased with the design Jeff developed and I am excited to see all of the plants grow, bloom and produce in coming years. We love our new yard and hope our neighbors, including the birds, bees and butterflies, will enjoy it, too!."

The Drake University Food Forest and Sprout Garden was a project revitalizing an urban learning garden at a new location. It incorporated rain gardens, tree guilds, and keyhole raised beds for education and food production. Utilizing permaculture principles, the design reused resources from the old site and integrated sustainable features like rainwater catchment and hugelkultur beds.
